Translation of a revised and supplemented text of the Polish edition of a monograph on Maciej Nowicki (1910-1950), issued on the centenary of his birth. Maciej (Matthew) Nowicki, architect and graduate of Warsaw University of Technology, won acclaim before the war as one of the leading modernist drawing artists, who, together with his wife Stanislawa Sandecka, produced excellent posters. Before leaving Poland in 1945 he designed and implemented several buildings, including his parents’ home in Warsaw. After the war he lived in the U.S. and taught at North Carolina State College in Raleigh. He designed the iconic Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC and was the author of the first design for the Chandigarh project in India, which he did not live to see executed. He died prematurely in a plane crash. The book is illustrated with photos of his buildings, and with the architect’s posters and drawings.
